Now season 2 has officially been titled and given a release date, I suspect we will start seeing goodies and information about it pouring out. So I figured it would be a good idea to put all the info we find in the one thread- and so here we are!

So during the next 3 weeks before launch post any interesting news you find about Memento Mori here.

To begin with, here's a quote from Wikipedia about the phrase Memento mori:

Memento mori is a Latin phrase meaning "Remember you will die". It names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality.

... which to me sounds like an awesome theme to run with. Seems the new update could include some really challenging zones and bosses.

Thanks for teh thread Mcrat!  Thumbs Up

Seems the new update could include some really challenging zones and bosses.

... Maybe a new hardcore mode... when your dead, your dead?

There are changes coming to death. The name isn't just tongue-in-cheek.

Which isn't to discount the current difficulty at upper level play in Requiem. Try ducking around the edges of Lake El Med @ Nightmare... or be the first to spawn inside Wrecked Ship and lose a week of grind time... or take RuinHorn's aggro for 10 seconds... or play main tank position in a boss raid... or watch yer PUG healer stand next to ya whacking a boss with a stick while you crumble to the tune of $10k in repairs... and then let us know you feel about difficulty settings and the pain of death.  Evil

Also, tip your Tank.

*/pokes newbz*

Other things we already know:

Death will become more serious. Possibly de-lvling, though that's extreme and cumbersome to implement. More than likely we'll be looking at -% XP. As in: while we may not de-lvl per se, -14.7% below 0.0% may be a possibility. That's fairly standard in eastern mmo's.

Never had a griefer/pk'er tell ya they work for Gravity, getting people to buy more pots and costumes? lolololol. You will. And don't assume they're joking...

 Thumbs Up Evil

Season 2 Sneak Peek - Temperion Changes
Changes are coming to the existing character development. Currently characters develop in the following way:

 Level 1 ~ 9     Temperion
 Level 10 ~ 49   First Job
 Level 50 ~      Second Job

The developers decided to remove the phase Temperion to allow players to immediately chose a profession. This will entice players to try our new classes and their unique features. This will also bring about some redesigning entry-level quests in order to meet these changes. As a result, players will evolve as follows:

 Level 1 ~ 49   First Job
 Level 50 ~  Second Job

Thus, at the beginning of the game players will choose not only the appearance and the race of your character, but also one of the eight unique jobs. The word «Temperion» remain in the vocabulary game, however,  this will always be the symbol for all genetically modified soldiers who bravely fought against the monsters of Ethergia.

Interview with Requiem Game Developer
Here is an interview from our friends over at : www.thisisgame.com. We have translated the interview below between the GM at Thisisgame.com and our Project Manager Seomoon at Gravity HQ in Korea.

[GM]Rondel: Is season 2 coming out? When can we see it?

[PM]Seomoon: Yes it is. J After we go through our internal process we are going to roll out the update. It is going to be during summer of this year, not after.

[GM] Rondel: During our last interview, you said the update will be released in June. Why has it been delayed?

[PM]Seomoon: Since we had to do internal testing and fixes on the update, we had to delay it. I am sorry for not meeting our user’s expectation.

[GM] Rondel: Based on our last interview, you mentioned that each character will become more distinctive from one another. Does this mean that we can expect skill and stat changes on each character?

[PM]Seomoon: Yes of course. We are going to keep the main frame but change things that are necessary to make each character more distinctive from one another. We would like our user’s opinion on this.

[GM] Rondel: A lot of users who reached their maximum level need more contents. They are tired of killing same monsters over and over.

[PM]Seomoon: A lot of Requiem users reached maximum level and we will be focusing on developing more contents for those users. We are not only going to add more quests and monsters, but also going to make the battlefield system more fun.

[GM] Rondel: Some users have been taking advantages of PK system and killing low level players making them not want to play the game. Do you have any plan for this?

[PM]Seomoon: PK system is not going to be a main focus for this update but we are working on this to prevent low level players from quitting.

[GM] Rondel: I know you have already announced armors for level 70 players. Are you going to release weapons for level 70 users as well?

[PM]Seomoon: Yes, of course.

[GM] Rondel: Any new system for this season 2 update?

[PM]Seomoon: We are going to add pet system and change the battlefield system.  And also, we are going to change some portion of the beast possession system.

[GM] Rondel: That means my interview will be more. Ha Ha.

[GM] Rondel: Update like this is important. But also Requiem community is also important since we have fewer users playing this game. Do you have any solution for this?

[PM]Seomoon: We will be changing in-game UI and chatting system so that it can be much easier for users to communicate. We are actually benchmarking the system Ragnarok is currently using.

[GM] Rondel: Are you planning on releasing the sixth DNA for the season 2 update?

[PM]Seomoon: I have not seen the sixth DNA yet but we are changing the entire DNA system to make it more unique and appealing to our users.

[GM] Rondel: What is your expectation on this season 2 update?

[PM]Seomoon: Our focus of the season 2 update is for new Requiem users, users who once played Requiem and have not played ever since, and high level users. We will also be focusing on more marketing efforts as well as making Requiem more fun to play.

[GM] Rondel: Any closing comments to Requiem users?

[PM]Seomoon: Thank you. I am sure that after the season 2 update, our users will have more fun playing Requiem.

All of it sounds a little too vague for me to be interested... is it going to be more fast paced or is it going to become more slow paced and difficult? I recall you saying that the Korean version of Season 2/Memento Mori was ridiculously time consuming.

that is a two and a half month old interview when they were being really really vague about everything (hadn't really cemented what the Western s2 was going to look like) - not much has been given away yet. Anything anyone says is only speculation until official patch notes/teasers are released. Community managers have told us they have the s2 client and are currently testing it but when they'll tell us anything more then what is on MySpace is anyone's guess really - if they hold to pattern notes will be released on the day of s2 launch or maybe the day before.

Much of the speculation of "it's going to be like this" or "like that" is based on versions of the game for different regions. It is important to remember that different regions can get very very different versions of a game - different p2p/f2p models based on region, different skills, different skill acquisition methods, skill trees vs. no skill trees and so on.

While I think there will be a lot of changes/additions I very much doubt it will suddenly become a different game or end up with a steeper xp curve. Much of Requiem has been extremely Westernized compared to most of the Eastern f2p fare out there - Gravity's formula has worked for them so far I doubt they'll veer from it much.

mmm. nope. never said that. I may have noted the time sink requirements at lvl 60+ as the game exists now - and I doubt those will go away.

It's a f2p "korean grinder" mmo - if max-cap was possible for every gamer it... uh... wouldn't be.

 Grin

I could see some basic mechanic revisions that could speed up gameplay and are quite possibly coming in S2 (more slots to craft would be a gentle start). But the game won't change into a different game. We'll just get more to do (basically).

Most of Gravity's Requiem updates involve new content, typically for high level players as they're the most in need of it at any given time. As the game exists now, the quests basically stop at lvl 63 and the rest is exponential xp curves and pure, blind-grind time. Months and months and hours and hours of raiding, grinding, rinse, repeat. But that's standard "end game" mmo - and there's always a demographic who's into it.

H3ll, I have a few toons who I've put into retirement for 6+ months as they're near the virtual cap as-is, I pull em out occassionally and stick them in the guild cuz I might be active on them for a week or two - then they go back into retirement. I've played Requiem for over a year - so i do have toons that are basically complete as they'll ever be - barring a sh*tload of new content for the under-60 crowd - which I kinda doubt - as the game has plenty of content for players 1-70. I suspect they'll add new dungeons I'll never bother to see (ie. 70+ raids).

The dev's have told us they're changing the death and pvp mechanics - we just don't know how yet. Best we have to go on is typical "eastern" mmo standards on -% xp death. Which I'm not to keen on honestly, as I like the current death loss. I already fear teh deaths and pretty much NEVER die - so I don't need any more motivation. I've had nights I lost a week of grind to one or two deaths, and that's more than enough for me. I suspect ppl who find the gameplay "not hard enough" (the devs seem to think this) - have been ponying-up for costumes and using cash shop AeDs and pots for so long they forgot how much dieing can hurt.

yeah all mah mall points ran out weeks ago and i dont think i will be buying any more.  so no more AeD's lately and death is definitely not fun at 60+.  i find myself getting way more careful and calculating with \out the AeD's.

New Warrior > Zerker / Warlord Up!

http://www.playrequiem.com/news/updateDetail.aspx?Num=66

lol. They gonna make ya take Armor Breaker if ya want the single target Fear. That's a shame. ...I guess it makes sense. A very PvP oriented tree to begin with.

Looks like I'm getting lucky with most the new Warrior skills as I skip most the ones now on the first tab.

It's the second job I get buttsecksed on. Apparently, I'm running an extremely hybrid build on my Zerker (considering Zerker has ONE second job skill now - I spose that's not too hard).

But it looks like I'll be switching to Warlord in Memento Mori - cuz I do so love to spin.
